This year Grandvalira will host their biggest event to date, the 2019 FIS World Cup Finals. Taking place for the first time in Andorra the event welcomes the top 25 skiers in each category and will be held on the Avet (Soldeu) and Àliga (El Tarter) slopes in the Grandvalira area between 11th – 17th March 2019. Many consider the World Cup Finals to be the most important competition on the pro ski tour after the Olympic Games and World Championships.
Andorra’s geographic location in the Pyrenees has drawn visitors from nearby Spain and France for many years, but due to its excellent conditions, modern infrastructure and welcoming citizens the principality has seen a surge in visitors looking for a memorable ski experience.
The World Cup Finals attract thousands of ski enthusiasts, hoping to catch a glimpse of the likes of Lindsey Vonn and Mikaela Shiffrin. As a highlight in the alpine skiing calendar, this is not one to be missed. Since opening in 2003 Grandvalira have invested millions in the area, from improving facilities and non-skiing leisure activities. This year alone Grandvalira has invested over €10 million, this includes a 150,000 sq. foot ski platform in Soldeu at the foot of the Avet slope. The new platform in Soldeu will be beneficial for those visiting for the event, as it will provide 450 additional parking spaces and connects the Avet slope to the village.

Make the most of your time at the FIS World Cup Finals, there are a plethora of activities taking place across Grandvalira. The Avet slope will also host the opening ceremony (12/03/2019 18:30), expect to see plenty of fireworks and activities taking place. Each evening at L’Abarset in El Tarter between 17:00 and 21:00 there will be an après-ski event with a variety of DJs performing. Next to L’Abarset, there will be an exhibition area where the event sponsors will be stationed, pop in to learn more about the different products being showcased at the World Cup Finals.
There are four categories for both men and women: slalom (SL), giant slalom (GS), downhill (DH) and super-G (SG). The Avet slope in Soldeu will stage the technical slalom and giant slalom categories. The slope is more than 1,200m long with a maximum incline of 70%. Due to its North-West position, it has exceptional snow coverage. The Àliga slope in El Tarter is famous for its X-shape duel route which forms part of the Grandvalira logo. It will host the speed and technical categories.
