Many people haven’t even heard of Andorra or struggle to say where they think it might be found so we’ve put together five interesting facts you might not know.  In between each fact we’ve added a fantastic photo from Andorra, taken by Andorran photographer Jordi Troguet, so you can see what a vibrant and interesting country it is.

1. Andorra isn’t in the EU

Whilst sandwiched by two EU countries (France and Spain), Andorra isn’t actually part of the EU, even though it uses the Euro as it’s currency.  Over the past few years there have been moves to create more ties with possible future inclusion within the EU.  During 2013 the designs have been drawn up for Andorran Euro coins and if all goes to plan they will start to be issued from early 2014.

2. Andorra is only the 6th smallest country in Europe

Despite being tiny, Andorra is actually only the sixth smallest country in Europe, at 181 square miles.

3. The population of Andorra would fit in Wembley Stadium

The number of people living in Andorra fluctuates massively between summer and winter months due to the heavy influence of tourism on the national economy however the official estimated population in 2012 was 85,000 which would comfortably fit inside Wembley Stadium!

4. Very low unemployment

The unemployment rate for Andorra in 2012 was just 2.9% which is incredibly low, compared to the lowest rate of unemployment within the EU which was Austria with 4.7%.

5. Life expectancy is the 4th highest in the world

With an age of 82, the life expectnacy in Andorra is fourth highest in the world, partly helped by the government providing free health care for everybody who is employed through their CASS system.
