Grandvalira ski slope

Not sure where to go for the best slopes in Andorra? Here are our Top Slope Recommendations in Andorra for Every Ability. We’ve got some great recommendations for you!

Make sure to read all sections, even if you’re a beginner—there are some excellent, easier slopes in the intermediate sections too. Likewise, for advanced skiers, you’ll find fantastic runs suitable for all levels in every section.

For beginners, the best place to start would be the beginner slopes near the ski school, marked with green runs. However, we would also suggest some pistes to try once you’ve gained a bit more confidence and can take the chairlift up!

Grandvalira

Soldeu / El Tarter / Canillo

For Beginners

Aside from the Magic Carpet area, there are some great blue runs in Soldeu and El Tarter to practice your skills on:

  • SoldeuGall de Bosc, running from the top of the Solana S5 chairlift all the way down to the base of El Tarter. This is great for those looking to practice for a longer period without getting on a lift.
    • When conditions are good, we would also recommend trying Bosc Fosc instead of Os (which can get quite icy and crowded). Bosc Fosc tends to be quieter, wider, and allows more space on the descent down into Soldeu town.
  • El TarterEsquirol is another long blue run, perfect for improving your skills over a longer stretch. It runs from the top of the Tosa Espiolets T9 lift all the way back to the town! It is a lovely scenic run with great views too.
  • CanilloRossinyol, a very long and wide blue run, which goes from the top of the Els Clots T12 or Portella C1 lifts. It’s a slightly more challenging blue than Esquirol and Gall de Bosc, but still great practice on a more winding run. It also has some gorgeous scenic views!

For Intermediate

  • SoldeuTorrallardona red slope, located adjacent to the Avet black run, is a quieter slope, meaning the conditions tend to stay excellent all day. It’s quite steep but not as challenging as the Avet and it is nice and wide, so it’s great for carving while maintaining control. Access it from Soldeu base by passing the ski school and sticking right until you see the red sign for the slope.
  • El TarterTamarro red slope is a lovely, long, wide run, excellent for practising carving. It’s perfect for gaining some speed while pushing yourself! This slope starts at the bottom of the Els Clots T12 lift.
    • Llop red slope is another great one, running from the top of the Tosa Espiolets T9 lift down into the El Tarter base (where the ski school is located). It’s nice and wide, with even some small off-piste sections on the sides if you’re looking to challenge yourself but aren’t quite ready for the more off-the-beaten-path routes!
  • Canillo – We would recommend La Font red slope, heading from the top of the TK Encampadana C6 drag lift down to join the Seig C7 lift. This is another slightly quieter slope, and there are off-piste options if conditions allow it too!

For Advanced (Black Runs / Off-Piste)

  • SoldeuAvet black slope is a real challenge! Steep (used for World Cup and Europa Cup slalom events) yet wide and quiet, it’s ideal for those looking to perfect a more difficult slope. It leads straight to the bottom of Soldeu town.
  • El TarterMiquel red slope, though not a black run, is very steep and tricky in places. It’s perfect for practising quick turns and tackling steep sections. You can access it from the top of the Llosada T10 lift.
    • We would also recommend giving the Aliga black slope a go, which is actually used by World Cup competitors too! It’s a wide black run and much less crowded than certain other slopes. While it’s not a particularly tricky black run, it’s a great way to ease into black slopes if you’re less confident. You can access it from the very top, just off the Tosa Espiolets T9 lift, or from halfway down, right next to the top of the El Tarter T1 lift.
  • CanilloIsard red slope, a scenic and more narrow run, heads from Canillo down into El Tarter base. It’s excellent when snow conditions permit off-piste skiing, as you can head off from the run into the trees.

Snow Park

The best snow park in Andorra is in El Tarter, with a range of small jumps, larger jumps for advanced riders, as well as rails, boxes, and various obstacles to test your freestyle skills! You can access this from the top of the Tosa Espiolets T9 lift.

Pas de la Casa / Grau Roig / Encamp

For Beginners

  • Pas de la CasaPista Port blue run is very scenic, and you even pass by the Grandvalira sign (a great photo opportunity!). It loops around from the top of the Costa Rodona Lift, and you can also reach it from the top of the Pas de la Casa lift by turning right and continuing along the top of the mountain until you find it. We love this run because it tends to be quieter and is nice and long.
  • Grau RoigCamí de Pessons, a long, narrow, and scenic blue run, starts at the top of the Llac de Cubil lift (if coming from Encamp/Soldeu) or Cubil lift (if coming from Pas de la Casa), running down past Pessons Lake to Grau Roig base. There’s also a stunning restaurant at the lake—perfect for a lunch break!
  • Encamp – If you’re not confident on reds yet, we recommend following the Solanella XL blue run all the way down from the top of the Funicamp gondola. Or, if coming from Soldeu, it also starts from the top of the Colibri lift. It’s great for practising turns on a gentler slope, and at the end, as you make your way down to Bordes (to take the Pla de les Pedres lift back up to the Funicamp gondola), you can practice on this more winding section. It tends to be fairly quiet, especially on the last stretch, and there’s a café at the bottom where you can stop.

For Intermediate

  • Pas de la CasaLlac red slope, when open, is great fun to take down into Pas de la Casa town. It’s often quieter than Directa II, making it a nice change. This slope starts from the top of the Pas de la Casa lift.
  • Grau Roig – For speed and carving practice, take the red run from the top of Pas de la Casa into the Grau Roig base, accessible via the Pic Blanc or Font Negre lifts. It starts as Pista Llarga and merges into Pala Nova / Menera. Begin near the Coll Blanc restaurant down then cut right at the flat section to follow the run to Grau Roig base. It’s also accessible from the Antenes lift via the Diagonal red slope.
    • For a different experience, take the Montmalus drag lift through the forest (check snow conditions) and try the Montmalus red slope—scenic and fun!
  • Encamp Serrat Pinos is a more hidden gem, starting from the Llac del Cubil chairlift. It’s a wide red slope, taking you down to the S1 Pla de les Pedres lift, which leads back to Soldeu. It’s also a great shortcut from Grau Roig to Soldeu.

For Advanced (Black Runs / Off-Piste)

  • Pas de la CasaJordi Angles black run is steep and challenging, so make sure to check if it’s open before heading down. It starts at the top of the Font Negre lift and leads to the bottom of Pas de la Casa town.
  • Grau Roig – There is also a black run off to the right of the Montmalus lift called Granota— but check for snow conditions before exploring it.
  • Encamp Mirador black slope is great for those looking for a more relaxed black run. The end section can be challenging, but overall, it’s a nice, wide descent.

Snow Park

The snow park in Grau Roig offers some excellent obstacles, great for trying new tricks. Though smaller than the El Tarter park, it’s perfect for practicing freestyle skills! You can find this on the descent down into Grau Roig from the top of Pas de la Casa, at the end of blue run Bosc.

Pal-Arinsal

For Beginners

  • PalCami Superior blue leading into La Serra is a scenic and wide run, starting from the top of the Coll de la Botella lift (coming from Arinsal) or the El Cubil lift (from Pal).
  • ArinsalLes Fonts blue run, just to the left of the Les Fonts 6-man chairlift, is ideal for beginners just getting more confident on blue runs.
    • It can get busy, so for a quieter option, try Port Vell, which is a very wide blue run.
    • For a more zigzagging run, try Les Marrades blue slope. It’s longer and tends to be quieter, located to the left of the Derby Deli, past the beginner slopes.

For Intermediate

  • Pal – For a lengthy red slope, try Cubil, starting from the top of the El Cubil lift. Or, for a varied route, go on Cubil until halfway down, then take a right onto Cami Superior, then continue left to Fontanals or La Clot red slopes. These are a bit steeper and quieter than the beginner areas, but be cautious if you’re not fully confident on red slopes as they can be tricky!
  • ArinsalEstadi red slope is a bit steeper than the blues, offering a wide, quieter path. When conditions permit, try La Pala, another steep red run from the top of Arinsal, accessed from the Port Negre chairlift, to push your skills a bit!

For Advanced (Black Runs / Off-Piste)

  • PalLa Comellada black run, located at the top of the Coll de la Botella lift, is steep and has scenic trees along the way, so is a nice run for a challenge.
  • ArinsalLa Capa black run is excellent for off-piste when conditions allow – so do check if it is open!
    • Alternatively, try Tub del Coll and Bony Vaques, located at the top of Arinsal, which are steep and narrow, perfect for a challenge when snow conditions are right.

Snow Park

For something different, the snow park in Arinsal features smaller obstacles and a range of jumps. The park being open may vary throughout the season though depending on snow conditions.

Ordino Arcalis

For Beginners

  • Arcalis is home to an 8km green slope that runs from the top of the La Basera/ La Coma lifts all the way to the main car park. It’s relaxing with scenic views and a nice halfway restaurant. You’ll also pass by the iconic ‘Big O’—perfect for photos!

For Intermediate

  • Arcalis has a wide variety of red slopes to explore. One favorite is La Portella del Mig, accessed from the La Basera lift. While the top is steep, the rest of the run is a lovely, wide path perfect for carving. Its location on the mountain’s dark side ensures great conditions, especially when it’s warmer.
  • Another great option is La Balma, which offers a long, scenic run which wraps around the mountain and leads down to La Canaleta, to then continue back to the gondola base / car park.
  • If you’re looking for tree-lined runs, head to the L’Abarsetar chairlift for some fun red slopes through the trees leading back down to the beginner area, such as El Bosc and L’Estadi.

For Advanced (Black Runs / Off-Piste)

  • Arcalis is known for its freeride zones, with several exciting options. From the L’Abarsetar chairlift, head left and keep right to find the freeride zone just past the Freeride archway.
  • Another off-piste area is accessible from the Els Feixans drag lift on the La Balma slope, when open.
  • Lastly, if the Creussans lift is operating, you can access a challenging freeride zone with fantastic exposed sections, but it’s only recommended for experienced skiers.

As always with off-piste / backcountry / freeride skiing or boarding, always check conditions and only attempt if snow conditions permit.
