Christmas Holiday to Andorra

Santa snowboarding in Arcalis

Santa snowboarding in ArcalisChristmas is a special time of year for most people in the UK however normally a white Christmas is just a fond memory rather than a reality when you spend the festive period at home.  If you’d like to bring back some of those memories and experience Christmas in a winter wonderland full of snow then you should think about coming on a ski holiday to make your holidays season that extra bit special!

If you haven’t been skiing at Christmas then we’ll let you know a little more about what goes on here in Andorra.

First up, will the slopes be extra busy?  Well, the week of Christmas Day isn’t one of the busiest of the season and it’s nowhere near as busy as the New Year week, so you don’t have to worry about competing with loads of people for space on the slopes.  It’s often the first week that the main UK tour operators have guests so the resorts normally have a great buzz about them as workers see there first busy week of the season, and holidaymakers are all excited about what presents they’re going to be getting!

A very common question is if everything will be open as usual.  The answer to that is a resounding YES!  Here is Andorra the tourism industry is very important to the economy therefore everything stays open throughout Christmas, except for banks and most offices.  The mountain will be open as normal (weather permitting) as well as the ski school (normally with a few extra Santa hats), plus the bars and restaurants all make an effort with decorations, special menus, Christmas dinners, lots of parties, and more often than not a few Santas will be spotted!

What about the presents?  From experience of seeing what other holidaymakers do, most will bring out one or two small presents and then say they will do their “main” presents when they get home, or for others the actual holiday is their main present.  There are also lots of gifts you can give each other here such as excursions on the snow – maybe a snowmobile ride, or a helicopter flight across the mountains to try and spot Santa’s sleigh!  One thing to remember though, Christmas morning isn’t just about the presents on a ski holiday – here in Andorra it’s all about getting up the mountain and skiing, and believe me it always feels fantastic to hit the slopes on December 25th!

Finally a big question is if you’ll have a white Christmas?  If you’re a betting person it’s about a snowflake falling, and whilst that’s a little difficult to predict you certainly increase your chances of having snow on Christmas morning by coming out to Andorra, however all the mountains are covered in snow right now with a base of up to 80cm, so plenty of snow to go around!

Merry Christmas!!!
