Tips for Surviving Ski Holidays with Toddlers – plus a GOTCHAkids Giveaway
At GOTCHAkids our aim is make young children feel confident about learning to ski and snowboard for the first time, and to have a lot of fun in the snow. This was the motivation behind our GOTCHAkids activity vests; a simple design with a vertical strap on the back that makes a sturdy handle for guiding and steering little ones on the slopes, helping them on and off chair lifts, and also works as a holder to let them carry their own skis. So handy for parents too!
Jo Marro, the founder of GOTCHAkids lives in the mountains with her four children, so has learnt a thing or two about skiing with toddlers. Here are her tips on enjoying ski trips with young children and on making them comfortable and confident for their first days in the snow:
- Do your research and book early for fun morning ski schools for toddlers.
- If your child is a beginner, book a resort with a good choice of nursery slopes.
- Look for child-friendly ski lifts, carpet lifts, chairlifts and rope tows – they’re often the highlight of the day.
- Plan other activities for the afternoon, as children can only manage a couple of hours on the slopes at a time.
- Don’t overload yourself or your toddler with unnecessary kit. Keep to the basics and be prepared to carry everything yourself – take a backpack with you with some space in.
- Don’t forget suncream and sunglasses – a MUST in the mountains!
- Take high-energy snacks and a drink.
- Overall, have a LOT of patience, make it enjoyable and be prepared to do a lot of waiting around as opposed to skiing. Remember, to have FUN is the most important part of this learning experience!
