Night Yoga in the Mountains

Yoga Team

On January 11th we tried the latest addition that Vallnord has added to its list of activities: A night walk (in snowshoes) and a yoga class on the slopes of Pal followed by an organic meal. The experience was incredible.

It all started at Planell de Pal, at the top of the La Massana gondola, where our group of 10 people prepared for a nighttime hike with snowshoes, or randonée (if you have your own touring skis).

We put on the snowshoes and started walking on the slopes around 19:00. It had snowed the day before, so despite being at night, the full moon illuminated an amazing snowy landscape. Surprisingly the temperature was mild and we were not cold at any point as, although you might not think it, walking with snowshoes is actually good exercise and warms you up fast. Being alone on the mountain at night contrasts with the hectic slopes during the day, and it was certainly an incredible feeling.

After 45 minutes hiking up, we arrived at Pla de la Cot, one of Pal’s cafes with the best views. The top of the restaurant had been converted for yoga classes with candles, dim light and a yoga mat each. Luckily we had a few minutes to change and remove the warm clothes before the lesson started.

The yoga teacher, Gina, also works at the Mosaic yoga centre in Andorra La Vella and is an expert in Kundalini yoga, “the yoga of consciousness”. At the end of the yoga class based on the release of energy from chakras, we did a few minutes of relaxation and meditation. When we finished, we went downstairs and the table was ready for us to recover strength with an organic dinner.

The dinner was served by Bio Bio and every two weeks they produce a new menu for this yoga activity. We started with a tasty seed salad, followed by vegetarian rice and a hot plate of lentils as main course. Everything was delicious and there was also cava, and natural juices to soak in the evening. For dessert, of course, we had organic fruits. With the stomach full and the mind relaxed, it was only missing the last part: to head back down to the base of the ski resort.

The lucky ones who had gone up in randonée could slide down the tracks of Pal in the dark with the only light of the full moon and no queues to wait.

However, those who did not have touring skis had the option of getting down with the ratrak, or enjoying once more the amazing night scenery while walking with the snowshoes. We definitely chose the last option!

Pal at night

We had so much fun on this unforgettable night.
