Family skiing in Andorra
Fantastic facilities and flexible options for parents and little ones alike
Andorra has long been one of Europe's best-kept secrets for family skiing holidays. The resorts are purpose-built with children in mind — from dedicated nursery areas and snow gardens to fully staffed ski schools for every age group. The lift systems are modern, the villages are compact and walkable, and the atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming.
Whether you're travelling with toddlers, teenagers or a mix of both, Andorra makes it easy. Children under six ski free, group lessons are competitively priced, and the instructor-to-pupil ratios are some of the best in Europe. It's no wonder families keep coming back year after year.

Ski Extras
Conveniently located ski schools and nurseries – plus under sixes ski free!
Whichever resort you are travelling to, the Schools, Snow Garden and Nurseries are all located right at the foot of the ski lifts. Drop the little ones off, grab your skis, and you're on the slopes in minutes — no shuttle buses, no complicated logistics, just straightforward family skiing.
Get ready to make unforgettable memories — whether it's their first time on snow or they're already racing you down the blue runs, Andorra has it covered.
All Andorran ski resorts offer nursery facilities, but the ages accepted differ depending on the resort. When booking, it's worth checking which nursery suits your child's age — we've laid it all out below so you can plan ahead.
Different resorts allow different ages:
1-5yrs
Arinsal + Pal
2-5yrs
Soldeu, El Tarter, Canillo, Encamp
2-5yrs
Grau Roig
No nursery
There is no Nursery in Pas de la Casa.
The nursery programmes typically run from 9:00am to 5:00pm and include supervised play, lunch and snack time. Staff are experienced, multilingual, and used to looking after little ones from all over Europe — so even if your toddler doesn't speak a word of Catalan, they'll be just fine.
We'd recommend booking nursery places in advance, especially during peak weeks (half terms, Christmas and New Year). They do fill up quickly. If your child is 3 or over, you might also want to consider the Snow Garden as an alternative — it combines childcare with an introduction to skiing, which kids absolutely love.
A fun, safe introduction to skiing for children aged 3-5
The snow garden is designed specifically for very young children who are ready to try skiing for the first time. Available at most Andorran ski resorts, it's an enclosed, gently sloping area where kids aged 3-5 learn through play — using colourful obstacles, mini slaloms and games to build their confidence on the snow.
Sessions are led by qualified instructors who specialise in early-years skiing. The emphasis is on having fun, developing balance and learning to snowplough — all at their own pace. It's a brilliant stepping stone between nursery and formal ski school, and most children come away buzzing after their first taste of the slopes.
The snow garden is an enclosed area with fun activities to introduce kids to skiing!
Snow garden sessions usually run for half days (morning or afternoon), and we'd suggest booking in advance — especially during school holidays, when they're hugely popular.
Structured, fun lessons for children aged 6-11 with fully qualified instructors in Andorra
Once children are old enough for group ski school (typically from age 6), they're placed in classes based on both age and ability. Lessons are led by fully qualified instructors who know how to keep things engaging without compromising on technique.
Beginners start on gentle nursery slopes, learning the fundamentals of stopping, turning and controlling speed. Intermediate and advanced groups head out onto the main pistes, working on parallel turns, confidence building and off-piste awareness. It's a progressive system — children move up levels as they improve, and the instructors are great at keeping everyone motivated and having fun.
Group lessons typically run for 3-5 hours per day (with breaks), and multi-day packages are available at a discount. Booking in advance is strongly recommended during peak weeks.
Fun, structured snowboard lessons for children from age 6 across Andorra's resorts
If your child fancies trying snowboarding instead of skiing, Andorra has some excellent group snowboard schools available. The minimum age varies by resort, so it's worth checking before you book:
From 6 years
Soldeu, El Tarter, Canillo, Encamp — group snowboard lessons available from age 6.
From 12 years
Arinsal, Pal, Pas de la Casa, Grau Roig — group snowboard lessons available from age 12.
Classes are structured similarly to ski school — children are grouped by ability and taught by qualified instructors who specialise in snowboarding. Expect to cover balance, edge control, turning and linking turns, all in a fun, supportive environment. Multi-day courses are available and offer the best value.
Fully tailored instruction for younger children and those who prefer to learn at their own pace
Private lessons are a brilliant option for children who aren't quite ready for group lessons, or for those who learn better with one-on-one attention. They're also ideal for siblings who want to learn together — an instructor can work with up to three or four children from the same family in a single session.
The pace is entirely led by your child. Whether they're a nervous beginner or a confident intermediate who wants to push on, the instructor adapts to suit. Sessions can be booked as half-day or full-day, and you can choose morning or afternoon to fit around your own skiing schedule.
Private lessons are available across all Andorran resorts and tend to book up fast during peak weeks. If you know your dates, it's well worth reserving early.
Book nowEverything you need to know about booking lift passes for children in Andorra
One of the best things about skiing in Andorra with young children is that under sixes ski for free. That means no lift pass needed for your little ones — just bring their passport or ID to the ticket office and they'll be given a complimentary pass for the duration of your stay.
Free lift passes for under-sixes can't be pre-booked online — they're issued at the resort ticket office on arrival when you show the child's passport or ID.
For children aged 6 and over, you'll need to purchase a lift pass. Child rates apply up to age 11 and offer a significant discount on adult prices. Passes can be booked for individual days, multi-day blocks or full weeks — and the longer the pass, the better the daily rate. We'd recommend booking ahead to avoid queuing at the ticket office on your first morning.
