Grandvalira ski area
Authentic Andorra, with a gondola to the snow.
Canillo is a traditional Andorran village at 1,500m with its own gondola into the Grandvalira ski area. It's charming, authentic and well-priced — a quieter base with stone-built streets, the Palau de Gel ice rink, and the full 215km circuit waiting at the top of the lift.

The village & the skiing
The gondola from the edge of the village rises straight into the Canillo sector of Grandvalira — a sunny, family-friendly corner of the mountain with gentle slopes, a dedicated children's area and wide confidence-building runs. From there the circuit opens up: El Tarter and Soldeu are the next sectors along, and stronger skiers can push on towards Grau Roig and Pas de la Casa for a proper full-mountain day.
Down in the village, Canillo feels like the Andorra that existed before ski tourism — stone houses, the Romanesque church of Sant Joan de Caselles on the edge of town, and a pace of life that suits families and couples more than big party groups. Hotel prices reflect it too: this is one of the best-value bases on the whole Grandvalira circuit.
“Canillo was the perfect compromise — proper village feel, gondola straight into Grandvalira, and we paid noticeably less than friends staying in Soldeu for exactly the same skiing.”

Booking a Canillo trip?
Canillo.ski is our dedicated Canillo booking site for airport transfers, lift passes, lessons and ski hire — everything pre-booked before you arrive.
Off the slopes
Canillo's headline attraction is the Palau de Gel — Andorra's ice palace, with a skating rink, swimming pool and gym right in the middle of the village, perfect for a rest-day afternoon. Above the village, the Roc del Quer viewpoint juts out over the valley for one of the most photographed panoramas in the country. Evenings are low-key: good local restaurants, a handful of relaxed bars, and early starts the next morning.
To ski from Canillo you need a Grandvalira lift pass, which covers all seven sectors of the ski area — and includes skiing at Pal-Arinsal and Ordino-Arcalís too.
