Grandvalira ski area

Pas de la Casa ski resort. Doorstep skiing on the French border.

High, snow-sure and always up for it.

At 2,100m, Pas de la Casa is the highest resort town in Andorra — and the gateway to Grandvalira from the French side. The slopes rise straight from the edge of town, the snow holds from early to late season, and when the lifts close it has the liveliest après and nightlife in the country. Big groups, this is your place.

The town & the skiing

Click in at the door, ski the whole circuit.

There's no gondola commute in Pas de la Casa — the lifts leave from the edge of town and most accommodation is within a few minutes' walk of the snow. The home slopes are high, open bowls with everything from a town-side beginner area to some of Grandvalira's steepest blacks, and because the whole sector sits above 2,100m it's about the most snow-sure skiing in Andorra.

Ride up from town and drop over the ridge into Grau Roig's sheltered bowls, then carry on across the circuit — Soldeu, El Tarter, Canillo and Encamp are all reachable on the same pass for a proper full-mountain day, with the run back over the ridge bringing you home to your doorstep.

Twelve of us went and it couldn't have been easier — skis on outside the hotel, huge mountain, and the après went on as long as we did. Booking the whole group's extras in advance saved a fortune.

Off the slopes

Après that earns its reputation.

Pas de la Casa is Andorra's party capital — slope-side après bars that fill up from mid-afternoon, lively pubs and clubs that keep going late, and plenty of restaurants in between to keep the group fuelled. As a border town it's also packed with duty-free shopping, so the rest day looks after itself. If you're after quiet evenings, look along the valley at Soldeu or Canillo — but for groups and nightlife, nowhere in the Pyrenees does it better.

To ski from Pas de la Casa you need a Grandvalira lift pass, which covers all seven sectors of the ski area — and includes skiing at Pal-Arinsal and Ordino-Arcalís too.
