Grandvalira ski area

El Tarter ski resort. Quiet base, big mountain.

All of Grandvalira, none of the noise.

El Tarter is Soldeu's quieter neighbour — same 215km Grandvalira lift pass, same valley, same ski school, but with a more relaxed, residential feel. Its own gondola takes you straight up to the slopes, and it's home to Grandvalira's largest snowpark, so freestylers know it well.

The village & the skiing

Same slopes as Soldeu, at a gentler pace.

El Tarter sits at 1,710m, strung along the valley road just below Soldeu. The gondola rises from the village to Riba Escorxada, a sunny mid-mountain hub with beginner zones, a ski school meeting point and restaurants — an ideal launchpad for families. From there the whole Soldeu–El Tarter sector is yours, with the rest of Grandvalira beyond it: Canillo one way, Grau Roig and Pas de la Casa the other.

El Tarter's calling card is its snowpark — the largest in Grandvalira, with lines of kickers, rails and boxes for everyone from first-timers to seasoned freestylers. Add quiet blues and reds back down through the trees and it's a sector you can happily ski all week without repeating yourself.

Perfect for our family — quiet village, gondola straight up to the beginner area, and the big resort there when we wanted it. The kids lived in the snowpark.

Off the slopes

Early nights or big nights — your choice.

The village itself is low-key: a handful of good restaurants and hotel bars, a relaxed slope-side terrace or two for after the last run, and not much in the way of late-night noise — which is exactly why families and early risers love it. When you do want a bigger evening, Soldeu's bars and après scene are five minutes up the road, with a regular ski bus and inexpensive taxis linking the two villages.

To ski from El Tarter you need a Grandvalira lift pass, which covers all seven sectors of the ski area — and includes skiing at Pal-Arinsal and Ordino-Arcalís too.
