At GOTCHAkids our aim is make young children feel confident about learning to ski and snowboard for the first time, and to have a lot of fun in the snow. This was the motivation behind our GOTCHAkids activity vests; a simple design with a vertical strap on the back that makes a sturdy handle for guiding and steering little ones on the slopes, helping them on and off chair lifts, and also works as a holder to let them carry their own skis. Grandvalira have been really busy this last month renovating the bottom gondola station in El Tarter. They have modernised the old station by extending a new building over the top and tidying up the surrounding area, plus the addition of new ticket windows to speed up getting on the mountain. (more…)
Andorra is a secret in the Pyrenees.
What happens during the summer is a question often asked by our winter clients – “everything” is my answer! There is something for everyone to enjoy. Keen hikers can enjoy some of the challenging hiking within the area of Arinsal, including the highest peak in Andorra which stands at 2942m in the heart of the Comapedrosa natural park. You could visit UNESCO World Heritage site Madriu-Perafita-Claror Valley less than 30 minutes away from Arinsal. There is a huge variety of walks from a leisurely strolls to the most challenging of treks with overnight stay in mountain huts.
Perhaps you’re looking for an adrenaline rush as you enjoy our scenic mountains; well, mountain biking is one of the most popular activities in the area. The Vallnord bike park is already open each weekend until 20th June when it opens full time for the summer season until 13th September. Many people haven’t even heard of Andorra or struggle to say where they think it might be found so we’ve put together five interesting facts you might not know. In between each fact we’ve added a fantastic photo from Andorra, taken by Andorran photographer Jordi Troguet, so you can see what a vibrant and interesting country it is.
1. Andorra isn’t in the EU
Whilst sandwiched by two EU countries (France and Spain), Andorra isn’t actually part of the EU, even though it uses the Euro as it’s currency. Over the past few years there have been moves to create more ties with possible future inclusion within the EU. During 2013 the designs have been drawn up for Andorran Euro coins and if all goes to plan they will start to be issued from early 2014.
